Fable inspired by Dr Sanjeeta Sharma Pokharel
Dr Sanjeeta Sharma Pokharel, born in Nepal, is a biologist specialising in the physiology and conservation of Asian elephants. After a Bachelor of Science in Nepal and a Master’s in environmental studies in India, she completed a PhD in elephant biology at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Her research focuses on the links between ecology, stress and the adaptive capacities of wild elephants.
Since 2022, she has been based at Kyoto University in Japan, where she studies the stress physiology of elephants in their natural habitat, particularly in Indian forests. Her work provides valuable data on their health, behaviour and resilience in the face of environmental change. Through her research and commitment, she actively contributes to their long-term protection. This fable pays tribute to her and draws on her mission: understanding elephants better in order to protect them better.
